SURO

Wine as excuse

Suro is a wine shop in Torroella de Montgrí, a small town in the Empordà region. The owners wanted a brand that felt welcoming and loose, the way a good evening with wine feels.

Cork oaks and long evenings

The name means cork in Catalan, and cork oaks are everywhere in the Empordà landscape. But the brand couldn't just be about wine as product. It had to be about wine as excuse, the thing that gets people sitting together, talking, staying longer than they planned.

Tall letters, warm coral

The wordmark uses Right Grotesk Thin, tall and condensed, letters that stretch upward and fill the frame edge to edge. The proportions are confident and slightly unexpected for a wine shop, closer to a poster than a label. Neue Machina Regular handles the supporting text across bottle labels, menus, and the wine list, bringing a clean geometric quality that pairs well without competing.

The color palette is built around a warm coral inspired by the Empordà sunsets, grounded with black and cream. Mediterranean without being postcard-Mediterranean.

A conversation you can almost hear

The illustrations take their cue from Sempé. That same effortless line, figures caught mid-gesture, the warmth of people being people without any self-consciousness about it. Hands holding glasses, someone leaning in, a conversation you can almost hear. The line work sits over and between the letterforms, so type and illustration live as one system rather than two separate elements competing for attention.
